Scenario: A Project Manager working to a very compressed 2 week timeline to source, build tooling, produce samples and submit interim PPAP reached out to Ampex. This project was a mission critical event for a major automobile manufacturer.

Scenario: Tier 1 automotive supplier approached Ampex due to pressure from a major automobile manufacturer to reduce the cost of a critical engine part. The Tier 1 and Ampex Engineering teams collaborated on ways to find cost saving solutions to this problem.

Outcome: We recommended replacing the main aluminum die cast component of the assembly. Our team spec’d and proposed replacing this piece with a stamping made from high strength low alloy steel (HSLA). Ampex designed-in "ribs" to further strengthen the part, produced prototypes for approval and a complete solution was achieved. This approach reduced costs 50% and provided significant weight reduction.
